Ronald Strøm

Ronald Strom's connection to the maritime world started early in his life, shaped by a family deeply rooted in seafaring traditions. Born in Tromso, Norway, Ronald was introduced to the industry through his father, a ship engineer, and several uncles who worked as captains or engineers. At the age of 15, Ronald began his journey on a fishing vessel, a common starting point for many in the northern regions of Norway.

In 1985, Ronald completed his education in marine engineering at Tonsberg Maritime Hoyskole in Tønsberg, Norway. He obtained his Chief Engineer’s license, making marine engineering his professional journey.

Transitioning to the cruise ship sector in 1984, Ronald's skills and commitment became apparent. During his tenure with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL) from 1990 to 1996, where he was part of the site teams for the construction of the final two ships of the Sovereign Class; the Monarch of the Seas and the Majesty of the Seas, was deepening his interest for marine engineering.

In 1997, Ronald joined Star Cruises in Malaysia as a Technical Superintendent, where he also pioneered the role of Director of Environmental. He developed one of the first Environmental Manuals for a cruise line in Asia, reflecting his dedication to sustainability and responsible maritime practices.

Throughout his career, Ronald held various influential roles in different cruise lines and ship management companies, demonstrating leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to maritime excellence. From serving as a Newbuilding Inspector, Technical Superintendent, Fleet Manager to becoming Vice President of Technical, Ronald played his role in the cruise industry.

In 2011, Ronald returned to Norway, joining Ostensjo Rederi AS - an offshore shipping company - where he took on roles such as Technical Superintendent, HSEQ Manager, and Technical Manager for EDDA Accommodation. His focus on safety, compliance and an eye for details was essential in operating offshore accommodation ships.

Ronald's expertise also includes managing vessel budgets, planning and following up maintenance operations, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. His collaborative nature and positive attitude have earned him respect within the maritime community.

Today, Ronald serves as a partner in a Ship Management Group, holding the position of Vice President of Projects and HSEQ. His leadership continues to drive innovation and excellence, inspiring also the next generation, as his son also became a ship engineer.
